The front man for British rockers Bad Beat Revue died after slamming his head during a disastrous stage dive during a Leeds concert.

Patrick Sherry, 29, jumped up to grab a lighting rig overhead, but fell headfirst on the wood floor, the Mirror reported Monday. He died Thursday morning of head injuries at Leeds General Infirmary.

The band had been booked at the last minute to replace a band that had pulled out from the Wednesday night NME showcase at the Warehouse, the newspaper said.

Sherry's brother, Brendan, is also in the band and witnessed the accident.

"My brother was quiet and unassuming in his everyday life," he said. "On stage he was like a caged animal set free and he died doing what he did best."

Police were to view CCTV footage of the accident.

Sherry leaves behind his wife of two years, Charlotte, and two children.
