Several Ross police officers have received commendations for their efforts in combating crime in the township during the year.
The commendations concerned investigations that included several armed robberies. The most notable was offers' chase of suspects from a Sunoco Station on Lowries Run road to the stadiums on Pittsburgh's North Side on July 30.
Officers recognized for this incident were Sergeant Samuel Comport, Patrolman Donald Dreier, Patrolman David Young, Sergeant Robert Martin and Patrolman Larry Wagner.
Patrolman Michael Kirtley was commended for his investigation of a suspicious vehicle parked behind the Adult Mart along McKnight Road on Aug. 8. The routine investigation eventually led to a drug arrest.
Patrolmen Joe Shurina and Robert Zegar received commendations for their investigation of a vehicle parked behind the Bed, Bath and Beyond store along McKnight Road in November. The officers discovered a gun in the car after forensic investigations was also linked to several crimes in the Pittsburgh area.
Patrolman Matt Ramaley was commended for his work in April when he stopped a car at the Sunoco Station on Babcock Boulevard and discovered that the car was stolen. The officer also solved 12 vending machine break-ins through the traffic stop.
Finally, Patrolman Jack Ley was commended when he pursued a car that was believed to have been used in the robbery of the Hollywood Video along McKnight Road. Ley chased the car from McKnight Road through Northview Heights, which led to the arrest of a minor. The next day, the 16-year-old's father was arrested for involvement in the robberies.
The arrests cleared up 18 robberies in Pittsburgh and surrounding areas.
Township commissioners presented the commendations to the officers earlier this month.
