To the Editor:

Rostraver Township is the proud owner of a beautiful new library. It truly is a pleasure to visit the library and check out material, use the computers or just socialize. The library staff is courteous and efficient, creating a welcome atmosphere for the library user.

Unfortunately, behind that beautiful facade lies a disturbing situation. Inadequate funding is preventing the library from realizing its full potential in serving the community of Rostraver.

Rostraver Township is a thriving community full of growth, so why isn’t the library experiencing that same growth• As the township grows, the library should grow along with it. But in order to grow, the funding for the library needs to be increased. This increase would allow the library to expand the budget for purchasing materials, increase staff size and be open for more hours.

The glamour of the new building will wear off some day and when that day arrives there needs to be some substance in that building to ensure that the library can continue to provide services.

I don’t want the Rostraver library to follow the path of the Pittsburgh Pirates. As the allure of PNC Park is wearing off, the Pirates are finding out that the substandard product they put on the field has led to their beautiful stadium being only half full.

Rostraver Township needs to ensure that its library is always full — of books, of children, of students and of everyone who wants to enrich their life.
