Rumor-laced Hillary Clinton book selling

This week's scathing collection of anecdotes about Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton has drawn criticism from Democrats and Republicans for containing hearsay.

"The Truth About Hillary: What She Knew, When She Knew It, and How Far She'll Go to Become President," by Edward Klein, was No. 3 on Amazon.com's best-seller list by Tuesday night.

It was denounced before its release by Clinton's spokesman, Philippe Reines, who said the book is "full of blatant and vicious fabrications contrived by someone who writes trash for cash."

Klein's frequent use of sources who requested anonymity has also raised credibility questions even with Clinton's Republican detractors, USA Today said Wednesday.

On the Fox News Channel, Bill O'Reilly said the most negative accounts come "from anonymous sources, which is not good. Far too many accusations are coming from people who are settling grudges in a cowardly way."

Sara Nelson, editor of Publishers Weekly, dismissed the book as a "clip and paste job, unlikely to change a single mind or a single vote."
