Russia and Turkey will sign an agreement to prevent incidents at sea, the commander-in-chief of the Russian Navy told Interfax Sunday.
The agreement will be signed during Russian Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov's working visit to Turkey's capital, Ankara, Monday and Tuesday, Adm. Vladimir Kuroyedov said.
The agreement will ban Russian and Turkish combat ships from directing their weapons or missiles at each other when they meet at sea.
"This document will help ensure a safer environment for military ships and vessels traveling outside the two countries' territorial waters," the admiral said.
"Undoubtedly, the signing of this document will help secure a safer environment for ships traveling in the Black Sea and outside it," he said.
The agreement also will outline steps for cooperation of Russian and Turkish military aviation units.
Turkey will become the 16th state with which Russia will conclude this agreement, Kurodeyov said.
