A poll finds poverty is the principle obstacle to Russians adopting children.
Interfax news service reports the survey by a national public opinion center found one-third of those questioned said they would adopt if their incomes were two or three times their current size.
Only 14 percent said they would adopt if they had no children, while 8 percent said better housing might convince them to adopt or foster children. Only 5 percent said age or ill health was a barrier.
