Rutgers coach will miss former Pitt coach

Jerry DiPaola

Rutgers coach Greg Schiano said he will miss competing against former Pitt coach Dave Wannstedt when the teams get together Saturday in New Brunswick, N.J.

"I feel for Dave, because he really busted his hump in putting that team together," Schiano said. "Then, all of a sudden, he is out. Like it or not, that is the business we are in. It's been fun competing with Dave, with guys that you know."

Schiano hired three coaches from Wannstedt's Pitt staff: offensive coordinator Frank Cignetti, tight ends coach Brian Angelichio and secondary coach Jeff Hafley. Also, former Pitt quarterback Andrew Janocko is a graduate assistant for the Scarlet Knights and former Pitt assistant director of football operations Matt Dudek, a South Allegheny graduate, recently was hired for the same position at Rutgers.

• Pitt running back Ray Graham continues to wait for a reply to his tweet to LeBron James, who tweeted during the USF game: "Ray Graham is a beast out there." Said Graham: "My friends were telling me about it, and I didn't believe it at first. Once I really saw the tweet, I started running around the locker room. I definitely tweeted him back. But he didn't write me back. He's focused on that (NBA) lockout. That's my excuse. I figure whenever he gets a chance to get back at me, I'm waiting patiently ."

• Graham was named Big East Offensive Player of the Week, his second such honor in two days. Graham, who rushed for 226 yards and two touchdowns on 26 carries against USF, also is the Walter Camp Football Foundation National Offensive Player of the Week.

• Pitt's next home game, a nonconference encounter against Utah on Oct. 15, will be televised by ESPNU, with a noon kickoff.
