For the second time during Rick Santorum's presidential campaign, his 3-year-old daughter is in the hospital.
Isabella Santorum, called "Bella" by family members, has a chromosomal defect, Trisomy 18. Many children with the disorder die within the first two years of their lives. Those who live longer typically have developmental and medical problems.
Santorum's campaign released a statement saying Bella was hospitalized but provided no details on the seriousness of her condition.
"The family requests prayers and privacy as Bella works her way to recovery," communications director Hogan Gidley said.
Bella was hospitalized in January with pneumonia and recovered within a few days.
Santorum yesterday took a break from campaigning and returned to his Virginia home to spend the Easter holiday with family and friends. His campaign said he would resume campaigning on Monday for Pennsylvania's April 24 primary.
