Saudi authorities Tuesday executed a Saudi national convicted of killing a compatriot after an argument in Assir, in southern Saudi Arabia.

The Interior Ministry said in a statement that Said bin Seif al-Zibya was convicted of the crime in which he used a rifle to shoot Falah bin Jarallah Kahtani.

The beheading with a sword was the 45th execution in Saudi Arabia this year. Earlier this month, two Yemeni nationals convicted of killing a Saudi woman in southern Saudi Arabia were also beheaded.

In 2004, 35 people were executed -- with most of the sentences carried out in public squares.

Saudi courts issue death sentences to convicted murderers, rapists, armed robbers, repeated drug smugglers and Muslims who renounce their religion.
