Woodlawn Golf Course 917 Bull Creek Road, Tarentum 724-224-4730

Woodlawn is a nine-hole, par-32 public course.

The course opened in 1962 and was designed by Ira Woods.

Weekday rates are $11 to walk nine holes and $18 to walk 18. Weekend rates are a dollar more per round.

Carts are available for $6 for nine holes and $10 for 18 holes.

This year, an every-day junior rate for players age 15 and under has been added. That rate is $9 for nine holes to walk and $15 to ride. For 18 holes, it is $14 to walk and $24 to ride. A senior rate also is available for those golfers 62 and over. That rate is $14 to walk 18 and $24 to ride.

Woodlawn is scenic and surrounded by woods, and a creek runs through parts of the course.

The course is owned and managed by Robyn S. Ramley.

This 18-hole course was purchased by the Szazynski family in 1978 and still sits on 102 acres with gradual slopes and rolling hills.

To play nine holes is $12 to walk, $17 to ride. For seniors, it is $11.50 to walk and $16.50 to ride nine holes Monday through Friday. For 18 holes, it is $17 to walk, $27 to ride, $16 to walk and $25 to ride for seniors.

Weekend rates are $15 to walk nine holes and $21 to ride; 18 holes cost $21 to walk and $34 to ride.

On Saturday and Sunday, there is a special after 3 p.m., when golfers can walk nine holes for $11 and ride for $17. The rate for 18 holes is $17 to walk and $29 to ride.

The course is open year-round from dawn until dusk, weather permitting.

Soft spikes are preferred at the course.

Saxon Golf Course 839 Ekastown Road, Sarver 724-353-2130

This 53-year-old course is relatively flat and wide open with a tree-lined back nine that is a little longer than the front nine.

In 1992, an East Course was added, giving the course 27 holes in all. The East Course opens with three par-3s followed by a dogleg right par-5. It finishes with par-4s on an executive-style course. There are no sand traps.

To play the regular 18-hole course, a tee time is required on weekends and holidays.

The East Course does not require a tee time.

Wednesday mornings during the summer, a youth league takes place for kids ages 7 through 18 at a discount rate. Golfers are paired before teeing off.

During the week, the cost to walk nine holes is $10.50, and the weekend rate is $12.50.

During the week, the cost to walk 18 holes is $18, and on weekends the cost is $22.

There are carts available.

The course runs a promotion in which golfers can get a card punched each time they play. Once a side of the card is full, the golfer gets a free round. When both sides of the card get filled, the card is entered in a drawing, with the winner getting a free year of golf.
