'Scandal's' Malina speaks at Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh party
Hollywood came to Pittsburgh on Jan. 31 with the arrival of “Scandal” star and “The West Wing” alum Joshua Malina as he took on the role of guest of honor during the Young Adult Division of the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh's 2015 Main Event.
“It's the YAD, which I've aged out of by four years. I'm going to encourage them to sign me on as a tribal elder,” he jested.
Co-chairs Melissa andPeter Rackoff and Andrea Ehrenreich andMichael Regan welcomed 200 to the Circuit Center at SouthSide Works, where fans of “Scandal” were getting the thrill of a lifetime.
“I'm a huge fan,” admitted Jamie Gerber.
“She's addicted!” added her husband, Sam.
YAD directorRachael and Alex Speck, Jenny andChad Jones, Lee Berger andMeghan Piro, Susie andDavid Rush, city councilmen Corey O'Connor and Dan Gilman with Amanda Kennedy, Amy Dicker, Duffy and Dana Hanna, Matt andSharon Feinman, Natasha Rogers, Ross Kressel, Larry Blumenthal and Mallory Gold and Noah Jordan were among those eagerly awaiting Malina's talk, “How to make it in Hollywood and remain a mensch.”
Leading his talking points were observations from La-La Land and the secret to his longstanding relationship with writer Aaron Sorkin that began, oddly enough, with the ill-fated bite of a hamburger.
“He bit off a rather large piece and began choking. ... I had to perform the Heimlich. In perhaps an unrelated note, I went on to star in almost every Aaron Sorkin series,” he joked.
