Schmitz Tire earns pair of wins

Jimmy Malone had three doubles and Ty Evans homered, as Schmitz Tire defeated Elks, 14-0, in Connellsville Little League action.

Nick Speeney had a double and two singles. Ryan Butela and Aaron Nicholson each added a double. Arik Nickelson and Butela combined for four strikeouts, with Nickelson getting the win for Schmitz Tire. Seth Haggerty doubled for Elks. Losing pitcher Brandon Heisterman and Haggerty combined for six strikeouts.

• Schmitz Tire 7, South Side 3 — Jimmy Malone struck out 15 and was the winning pitcher, as Schmitz Tire defeated South Side.

Malone had three hits, including a double. Ty Evans tripled, and Nick Speeney doubled. Corey Fogle led South Side with two singles.

Losing pitcher Fogle struck out 12. Colby Shipley added three strikeouts.

Youth softball

• Scottdale 8, West Hempfield 3 — Brianna Bunner and winning pitcher Riley Beistel combined on a one-hitter with 15 strikeouts to lead the Scottdale Y Spirit to a win over the West Hempfield She-Wolves in Hempfield Area Athletic Association action. Kylee Wisilosky had two hits and scored three runs.
