The Scottdale Fall Festival is just around the corner and more fun is packed into the weekend event this year than ever before.

Events will officially begin with ceremonies at 6 p.m. Sept. 16 on the Gazebo Stage.

Magician/Balloon Artist Dennie Huber will perform until 8 p.m. His interactive magic shows also features music and humor. Huber creates colorful balloon creations and hats.

In the children’s area, an inflatable MiniForce Obstacle Course (presented by Leapin’ Lizzys), a duck pond, balloon game and confetti eggs and a petting zoo will be apart of the weekend.

The dog show will be back. Held from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Friday, this year a Most Photogenic Pooch Photo Contest will join the Cutest Cat Photo Contest and will be held throughout the weekend.

The fee is $5 per cat or dog, with kitty and doggy bags available for all registered pets while supplies last.

The kitty bags will be provided by Muddy Paws Pet Supply and Animal Keepers. A gift basket will be given to the cat and dog with the most votes. The cost is 50 cents per vote. The winners will be announced Sunday evening.

Event organizers ask that cat and dog pictures, along with the $5 registration, be sent to Scottdale Fall Festival, P.O. Box 493, Scottdale, PA 15683 by Sept. 9.

Sept. 17 will be a very busy day with the popular parade and 5K run/walk.

The parade is scheduled for noon with the theme “Honoring Our Veterans.” Participants will travel from Loucks Park to the Post Office, turn left down Pittsburgh Street and end at the red light by Sheetz on Broadway. E-mail sffparade@gmail.com for more information.

The race is scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m. Saturday. The start and finish will be on Pittsburgh Street in front of the Elks. Sign-up is at the Festival Stage on Stoner Street (between the Elks and PNC Bank) between 11 a.m. and 2:25 p.m.

In case of inclement weather, sign-up will be at 226 Pittsburgh St. The awards ceremony will be at the Festival Stage (sign-up site) immediately after the race.

New this year, the festival will hold a Patriotic Chalk Drawing Contest for all age groups — ages 3-11, 12-17 and 18 and older — from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday on Pittsburgh Street. More than $200 in prizes will be awarded among the three age groups. The contest will be judged by local artists.

Also on Saturday, Mad Science of Pittsburgh will host its Polymer Playground and Dry Ice Fun from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Standard Bank parking lot. For more information, visit www.scottdalefallfestival.org .

On Sept. 18, the annual car show will be held, with registration from 9 a.m. to noon. It will be held in the Rite-Aid parking lot. The overflow will continue on Pittsburgh Street.

The show will be held from noon until 4 p.m. Admission is just a donation. Trophies will be awarded at 3 p.m. for Best in Show, People’s Choice and the George Santmyer. The disc jockey will be Dave Haering. Everyone is welcome to attend.

An antique motorcycle show will be held that day in the Graft car lot across Broadway. To contact the car show chairman, e-mail sffcars@gmail.com .

Finally, the Flying Wallendas, a high-wire performing group, will be back this year. A schedule will be announced later.
