The man who led police on a chase across two counties has been charged by turnpike state police in New Stanton.

Leeland Smalich, 30, of Scottdale allegedly sped through a construction area on Route 119 and into Bullskin on Sept. 17. State police in Greensburg chased him, along with Scottdale and Mt. Pleasant police.

A woman and two children were in Smalich's vehicle, police said.

Smalich parked the car in Bullskin and fled on foot, leaving his passengers behind, according to police

Smalich is charged with endangering the welfare of children, two counts of escape, and one count each of fleeing or attempting to elude an officer, possession of drug paraphernalia, recklessly endangering another person, resisting arrest and habitual offenses. He is also charged with 14 summary driving offenses, including illegal racing.

A preliminary hearing is pending.
