Congratulations to Randy Bish for his excellent cartoon on illegal immigration into the United States (Oct. 10 and TribLIVE.com). In the United States, although you are taking too many legal immigrants, your big problem is with illegal immigration and the vote-grovelling politicians who refuse to repair the holes in the “screen door” at your southern border. In Canada, we have had a big problem with fraudulent refugee claimants (the equivalent to your illegal immigrants), but we have had an even bigger problem with legal immigration. Aside from New Zealand, Canada takes more legal immigrants per capita than any other country. Nearly all of them go to Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal, where the impact of this cultural hurricane has been enormous. Much of Canada’s legal immigration problem has been caused by vote-grovelling politicians who want to completely remove our “screen door” so that they can get the recent immigrant vote and stay in power. With Americans, many Canadians ask this question: “What does it take to arouse a sense of shame in these people?” Good luck in your struggle. Dan Murray Vancouver, B.C.
