Searching PittsburghLIVE

OK, our new site search isn't brand new anymore, but it's worth mentioning because it works. For a long time, I received frequent complaints about our site search. It was lousy. Now, however, it's easy to find articles that have been published on our Web site over the past year. Start by finding the "Search" box in the left column on any page. If you're looking for an article that appeared within the previous week, type a keyword in the box to find articles that contain that word. If you're not certain when the article appeared, just click the "Search" button. It will take you to a search page , where you can fill in keywords, narrow the search to a particular newspaper and narrow the date range for your search. Using the archive is another way to search for articles. The archive contains articles from the Tribune-Review and Pittsburgh Tribune-Review published between 1988 and the end of 2001. The archive has many more articles than the Web site database. It's a good way to search for information that appeared in the newspaper but not online. Unfortunately, archive searches for material published since the beginning of 2002 are going to be less successful. The newspapers have started using a new archiving system that is not yet accessible on the Web site. We'll let you know when it is.
