A second teenager has been charged with attempted murder for a New Year's Day home invasion and shooting in Tarentum.

Dominic Balsamo, 17, of the Lawrenceville neighborhood of Pittsburgh remains in the Allegheny County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bond following his arrest last week.

Balsamo has been charged with attempted homicide, aggravated assault, robbery, conspiracy and firearms violations.

According to the complaint filed by county homicide detectives:

Balsamo and Dorian Smedley, 17, of Tarentum knocked on the door of a Short Street home about 4:30 p.m. on New Year's Day, and asked the shooting victim if he had any “green.”

When he said no, Smedley and Balsamo allegedly pulled out guns.

While Balsamo held the victim, 17, at gunpoint, Smedley hit another person in the head with his gun. The victim then kicked at Balsamo and punched Smedley in the head.

Smedley then allegedly fired two shots, striking the teen once in the stomach. The pair then fled.

The shooting victim was last known to be in critical condition at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. No information on his current condition was available Monday; a hospital spokeswoman said Children's had no patient with that name.

Both Balsamo and Smedley were identified by the shooting victim through a photo lineup.

Smedley was arrested Jan. 6. He is currently free on $50,000 bond pending a preliminary hearing this Friday. Balsamo is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Wednesday.

According to criminal court docket records, both hearings will be held before Judge Jeffrey A. Manning in Pittsburgh municipal court.
