Toy

Navy Seaman Recruit Brandon C. Toy, son of Tami L. and Rodney A. Toy of Templeton, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

During the eight-week program, Toy completed a variety of training which included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety. An emphasis was also placed on physical fitness.

The capstone event of boot camp is “Battle Stations.”

Toy is a 2009 graduate of Redbank Valley High School of New Bethlehem.

Goodman

Navy Petty Officer 1st Class James J. Goodman, son of Ellen Goodman of Ford Cliff and Joseph A. Goodman Jr. of Ford Cliff began a scheduled seven-month deployment with fellow sailors aboard the Oliver Hazard Perry-class frigate USS Ingraham (FFG 61) to the 5th and 7th Fleet's areas of operation.

During the deployment, USS Ingraham will support the Global War on Terrorism in its various missions whether steaming independently or attached to a strike group and establish and improve relationships with host countries and allied nations.

USS Ingraham and ships of its class escort and protect carrier strike groups, amphibious readiness groups and underway replenishment groups through its use of anti-submarine warfare, surface warfare, and maritime interdiction operation capabilities, and its two embarked SH-60 Seahawk LAMPS MK III helicopters.

USS Ingraham is the last frigate of its class and the fourth named to honor Navy Capt. Duncan Nathaniel Ingraham (1802-1891).

Goodman is a 1990 graduate of Ford City High School and joined the Navy in March 1991.
