The family of southwestern Pennsylvania’s first war casualty has planned a funeral now that Army Staff. Sgt. Stevon Booker’s body has been returned to them.

The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Apollo.

Booker, 34, was killed by enemy fire April 5 in a raid near Baghdad. He was a tank commander with the armored forces of the 3rd Infantry Division, and had been on the front lines of the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq. He was a decorated veteran of the first Gulf War in 1991, and received an Army Achievement Medal for meritorious service as a tank gunner in 1999.
