Two senior members of the Seton-La Salle softball team — Lauren Zola and Dani Dadig — signed national letters of intent last week with Indiana (Pa.) University and Youngstown State, respectively.

Both have been multiple year varsity starters and all-section selections, at Seton-La Salle, and both are honor roll students.

Zola, a right-handed pitcher, led the Lady Rebels to a 13-4 record in 2014, along with a berth in the WPIAL Class AA semifinals and PIAA first round. She posted a 0.74 ERA, striking out 186 batters in 94 innings. She also hit .391 and led the club in runs batted in with 15.

She was named to the Tribune-Review “Terrific Ten” all-star team in 2013.

“There were many reasons that I chose IUP,” Zola said. “When I first visited, I felt very at home. The team, the coach and hospitality management program were all a perfect fit for me. The campus is beautiful, and it isn’t far from home.”

Zola, a Seton-La Salle cheerleader with a 3.9 grade-point average, also was recruited by a few other Division I and Division II colleges.

Dadig, a center fielder who also considered attending Pitt, Penn State, Robert Morris and Lehigh, ranked among the team’s leading hitters last season with a .400 batting average, and was near-perfect in the stolen base department with 21 steals in 22 attempts.

“I chose Youngstown State because I felt it was the perfect fit,” she said. “It has a beautiful park-like campus while still having an urban feel to it. The academics are excellent, along with a strong athletic tradition.

“They recently completed a new softball complex on campus, which is one of the nicest parks in the Horizon League, and they play a competitive D1 schedule.”

Dadig, who owns a 4.0 GPA, is a member of the National and National English honor societies.
