Sewickley again has been designated as a Banner Community by the Allegheny League of Municipalities.

Leetsdale also is on the list of 42 municipalities that are receiving the honor for 2015, and both boroughs are among the 17 that have been named Banner Communities for all three years the award has been given.

“The fact that Sewickley is one of only a handful of municipalities to be recognized as a Banner Community all three years is a tribute to the borough staff and borough council,” said Sewickley Mayor Brian Jeffe.

The award is given each year to recognize local governments in the areas of communication, cooperation, education and sustainability, ranging from negotiating water and garbage contracts to managing pension plans, ALOM Executive Director Dick Hadley said.

“Often that goes unnoticed, or maybe (the local governments) don't do as good a job being able to communicate the good work they do,” Hadley said.
