Sewickley is working to clean up a tract of land the borough owns in Aleppo after township commissioners questioned whether the borough was dumping items there.
Sewickley Manager Kevin Flannery said the borough has used the property off Glen Mitchell Road for storage — nothing is being dumped.
“Basically, there's a lot of stuff being stored up there that they're cleaning up,” Flannery said. “That's all I know.”
During a public meeting, Aleppo Manager Gwen Patterson told township commissioners that Sewickley leaders had suggested there was so much there, the borough wouldn't have the items cleaned up by June 30.
Instead, she said Aleppo was told it would be cleaned up by early fall.
Township officials said the vegetation was hiding the property well. One commissioner asked whether Sewickley had a permit to dump there.
Commissioners President Matt Doebler suggested sending the code enforcement officer to the property to get a look at it.
“It's not a question of a permit, it's against ordinance,” Doebler said. “I mean, we have the ordinance online now. I'm not the code enforcement officer, but it seems to me that it's facially in violation.”
Patterson said Sewickley leaders have been using the property as storage and are working to get some of the items out of there.
