The Shady Side Academy girls soccer team finished with another stellar season. They ended with an 18-5 record and advanced to the semifinals of the WPIAL Class A playoffs and the quarterfinals in the PIAA championships.
“I am really proud of this group of girls and what they have accomplished as a soccer team this year,” SSA coach Mary Lynch said.
“Throughout the season, the team competed with determination, hard work, and a tenacity to win. I’m impressed with the team’s ability to overcome a number of obstacles throughout the season and make another great run in the WPIAL and state playoffs.
“We ended our season in the quarterfinals of the state tournament to Greensburg Central Catholic, but the girls have a lot to be proud of. We will really miss the leadership and hard work of our six seniors, but we wish them the best of luck next year.”
Senior members of the team were Kara Pooley, Calsey Holshue, Tori Winter, Courtney Clark, Jackie Cepicka and Rachel Slaugenhaupt.
Pooley, Winter and Elizabeth Harper were All-WPIAL and all-section selections. Olivia Cotter and goalie Samantha Morlacci also made the all-section team.
Harper led the team in scoring with 34 goals while Morlacci recorded 14 shutouts.
“We have a strong group of players returning next year,” Lynch said. “And while we didn’t have a JV team this year, many of the younger players had the opportunity to compete at the varsity level throughout the season. We’re looking forward to next season.”
