The outstanding tennis career of Lauren Greco has come to an end at Georgetown University, with her senior year being one to remember.The 2008 Shady Side Academy graduate recently was named to the All-Big East team, only the second Georgetown player to receive the honor under sixth-year coach Gordie Ernst.She compiled a 21-13 mark on the season, including 12-8 at No. 1 singles, and went 5-2 in Big East matches as the Hoyas went 16-6.Greco, a team captain, said, "It was a good way to go out."It made me proud to be the second player to receive the honor for Coach Ernst."Due to graduate soon with a major in English and a minor in sociology, Greco wants to stay in the Washington, D.C. area."I like it here," she said. "I'm going to try and get a job here."Going to law school remains an option."I definitely want to work in the sports industry and, if I decide on law school, I'll try to stay in this area," Greco said.Greco said tennis has given her many great memories. She started college at the University of Miami."In high school, we won WPIAL and PIAA titles," she said. "I haven't been able to keep in touch with many of my teammates. It's tough when you're away from home, but I still stay in touch with Alexis Giorgiadis and Jen Cozen."I still follow the team and I'll always be supportive of them."Greco did return home earlier in the season when the Hoyas took on the Pitt Panthers in a Big East match."Coming back to Pittsburgh was a little different since we were the visiting team," she said. "It was good to see some familiar faces and hear some cheers. I won my match and that was a good feeling."Among Greco's memorable accomplishments is beating Syracuse at home."I won my match at No. 1 singles to get us started and we ended up beating them. The fans and players swarmed the court."In the fall, Greco played in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regionals and made it to the quarterfinals."I beat the top-seeded player along the way," she said.After that tournament, she moved to No. 71 in the ITA rankings.In April 2011, Greco became the first Georgetown player to be named the Big East Player of the Week.Greco has not ruled out playing in some pro tournaments."My main focus now is graduating, and we'll see what happens."
