Devon Hall, a three-story Shadyside house with a touch of old English country styling, has a new owner.
Real estate developer Scott Deaktor and his wife, Marsha, have purchased the 80-year-old estate at 803 Devonshire St. for $1.42 million. The house was built for William Larimer Jones Jr., a president of the former Jones & Laughlin Steel Corp.
The seller was Glenshaw Glass President John J. Ghaznavi, who had listed the property in December through his Devon Hall Trust for $2.7 million.
The house features a great hall with polished marble flooring and limestone columns and a minstrel gallery with an ornate, hand-carved English oak railing. The large formal dining room contains a classic 18th-century Adams fireplace and marble floor.
A family room features ornate plaster ceiling motifs, oak paneling and floors. The architect, Brandon Smith, had the room dismantled and moved to the property after discovering it in an English country home.
A morning room, garden room and breakfast room with floor-to-ceiling windows also are among the more than 20 rooms in the house. Another feature is an elevator that connects the basement to the second floor.
Ellie Connelly, a Christie's Great Estate specialist with Howard Hanna Real Estate Services, marketed the property.
The Deaktors plan to customize the 22,000-square-foot house before they move in, said Roz Neiman, a Hanna agent who represented the Deaktors in the sales transaction.
