A man died when he lost control of his minivan and wrecked while passing another vehicle along Interstate 80 in Mercer County on Saturday afternoon, state police said.

Police said Karl Magee, 44, of Sharon, Mercer County, was driving westbound in the passing lane at about 3:25 p.m. when his 2003 Chrysler Town & Country drifted into the right lane and struck the tire of another vehicle.

The van went down an embankment into the median and rolled, police said.

Magee and his passenger, Darren G. Millhoff, 35, of Sharon, were both ejected from the right side door, which flung open. Neither man was wearing a seatbelt, according to police.

Magee was pronounced dead at the scene. Millhoff was taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Youngstown, Ohio, for treatment of moderate injuries.
