Several rescue squads were dispatched to an industrial accident Monday night at SuperValu's dry goods warehouse on Paintersville Road in New Stanton. According to emergency transmissions, a shelf containing canned goods measuring 25-feet high by 100-feet long collapsed at 8:20 p.m. A Westmoreland County 911 spokesman confirmed an ambulance had been dispatched to the scene, but further information about any injuries were unavailable. Fire departments from New Stanton, Youngwood, Hunker and Yukon were dispatched, and also tactical rescue teams. Rescue workers were unsure about entrapment and called for a head count of employees. New Stanton Fire Chief Bob Liberty, who was still at the accident scene at 11:15 p.m., could not be reached for comment. SuperValu, based in Eden Prairie, Minn., is the 11th largest U.S. food retailer and a leading food distributor. The New Stanton warehouse supplies Shop 'N Save and Save-a-Lot supermarkets locally.
