Shop 'n Save owners to sell four of their six locations

Shop ‘n Save owners Jim and Jeff Sorbara are selling four of their six locations in the region — two to another operator of Shop ‘n Save stores, and two to Giant Eagle Inc., the region's largest supermarket chain.

The Sorbara family will keep stores in Cranberry and Heidelberg, and sell stores in Bethel Park and Wilkens Township to the Duritza family, which owns five Shop ‘n Saves. The sale is expected to take place in August.

The Duritzas will offer jobs in the two stores to current employees who express an interest and meet background requirements, according to a statement attributed to Jeff Swanson, a spokesman for Eden Prairie, Minn.-based SuperValu Inc., which supplies Shop ‘n Save stores.

Giant Eagle purchased stores in Kennedy and South Fayette. Giant Eagle said it will reopen the South Fayette store as a Giant Eagle in a few weeks. The store will employ about 200. It did not disclose plans for the Kennedy store.

The O'Hara-based retailer, the 33rd largest privately held company nationwide with $9.9 billion in sales, operates 227 supermarkets and 190 GetGo gas stations and convenience stores in Western Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia and Maryland.
