Dear Editor:
Football season will be starting soon. I think that the city of Connellsville should show some support for its local high school football teams. Not only does the city have one football team -- the Connellsville Falcons -- it also has another -- the Geibel Gators.
The boys work extremely hard training and conditioning throughout the summer and the football season. Not only do they want to win every game, but they strive for their goal to become WPIAL champions.
As a Falcon fan, I attend all of the home games at the stadium as well as travel to all of the away games, wherever they may be. You know when you are approaching the city of the opposing team, because the businesses in that city support their football team. They have good luck signs hanging in their storefront windows, ribbons tied on their telephone poles and other decorations.
However, the city of Connellsville chooses to support the NFL team, the Pittsburgh Steelers. They are overlooking the hard work and dedication of their very own Connellsville Falcons and Geibel Gators.
Every year won't be a championship year, but I am asking the city of Connellsville to show some support for its two teams, whether they are having a winning season or a losing season. Please decorate your storefront windows and hang up some ribbons and other supporting decorations. Let's show the visiting football teams that we also support our teams.
After all, the heart of football lies within these boys and the fans who choose to support them!
Melanie DeWitt,
Vanderbilt
