The Southmoreland cross country teams each managed a sweep on Tuesday with wins over visiting Riverview and Geibel. Section 4-AA Boys SHS 17, Riverview 38 SHS 15, Geibel 40 Riverview 15, Geibel 40 Southmoreland’s Larry Earnesty (20:25) finished first to pace the Scots to a pair of wins. Steve Imel (20:40), Adam Baker (20:43) and Billy Schomer (21:41) finished second through fourth while Greg Jowarski (22:29) took eighth. Adam Casey (23:08) finished ninth for Geibel. Girls SHS 16, Riverview 47 SHS 15, Geibel 40 Riverview 15, Geibel 40 Julie Wisniewski (23:48), Maria Rendine (24:51), Jorgie Jacobs (25:33) and Kelly Bridges (26:34) took the top four spots as the Lady Scotties grabbed a pair of wins. Beth Wisniewski (28:17) took sixth overall. Section 2-AAA Boys WM 21, CAHS 36 CAHS 27, Ringgold 28 Connellsville’s Ryan Mullaney (19:34) and Pat Mullaney (19:52) took fourth and fifth as the Falcons earned the split at West Mifflin. Tyler Gilpin (20:59) finished 10th while Jim Martin (21:27) took 14th. Nick Bailey (21:35) took 15th. Girls WM 20, CAHS 35 CAHS 25, Ringgold 31 The Lady Falcons’ Shannon Kovack (23:39) took second overall as Connellsville picked up a split. Christine Salandra (25:19) took eighth and Molly Mullaney (25:49) finished 10th. Brit Mancini finished 11th (26:23) while Lindsey Tiberio settled for 14th. Section 3-AA Boys B’town 23, Frz. 32 W’burg 19, Frz. 36 Frazier’s Chris Novak (17:35) finished second overall, but the host Commodores (2-7) couldn’t pick up a win against Burgettstown and Waynesburg. Scott Knight (20:12), Andy Burkhart (21:04) and Josh Callahan (21:43) took sixth through eighth. Gene Zias (22:43) came in 10th. Girls Frz. 25, B’town 30 Frz. 25, W’burg 30 Carrie Sterdis (21:36) and Angie Livingstone (23:47) took second and fourth as the Lady Commodores (4-7) earned a sweep. Alma Rebottini (24:39) took sixth and Andrea Puskar (25:05) checked in eighth. Erica Sendek (28:07) crossed the line 10th. Girls Tennis Section 1-AA Doubles Mount Pleasant’s Mindy Hall and Kristina Cenkner beat three teams to win the Section 1-AA doubles tournament. The duo knocked off Belle Vernon’s Jennifer Brown and Rebecca Molesky 10-0 before topping Southmoreland’s Ashley Lowe and Megan Kite 6-1, 6-0. Hall and Cenkner then defeated Molly McClelland and Gina Pelehac 6-1, 6-1. The Lady Vikings’ Jamie Pawlikowsky and Rachel Bradley beat Jeannette’s Amy Duli and Bridgette McCune 10-0 before losing to McClelland and Pelehac 10-1. Southmoreland’s Lowe and Kite scored a 10-4 victory over Greensburg Central Catholic’s Jenna Colbuagh and Anna Polsinelli, then beat Brownsville’s Danielle Davison and Chantel Curcio 11-10 (7-4) before losing to Hall and Cenkner. Lowe and Kite then beat Greensburg Central Catholic’s Maddy Matuskowitz and Sarah Anderson in the consolation finals 6-1, 6-2. The Lady Scots’ Elizabeth Konieczny and Katie Huffman lost to McClelland and Pelehac 10-4 in the first round. Southmoreland’s Lowe and Kite as well as Mount Pleasant’s Hall and Cenkner will compete in the WPIAL finals at North Park on Monday. Boys Golf Section 2-AAA Yough 215, CAHS 228 Ben McCauley tallied a 41 while Josh Lash, John McCauley and John DeSimone each fired a 43 as the Cougars beat the Falcons. Tony Febbri checked in with a 45. Richard Tiberio led Connellsville with a 41, followed by Jeff Nicholson’s 44 and Mike White’s 47. Joe Kooser and Rusty McDiffett each delivered a 48. Connellsville will visit Belle Vernon on Thursday. SHS 213, AG 223 Eric Swank carded a 39 while Arty Myers and Aaron Stashick each canned a 41 as Southmoreland beat Albert Gallatin. Nick Fox and Phil Sanders each fired a 46. Josh Oros led the Colonials with a 40, followed by Eric Brooks’ 42 and Brian Gregor’s 45. Ron Ferlin tallied a 47 and Brian O’Neil notched a 49. Southmoreland (5-7, 5-8) host Mount Pleasant on Thursday. U’town 194, MP 200 Greg Franko fired a 34, followed by Zack Rockwell’s 37 and Andrew Balling’s 39 as Uniontown nipped Mount Pleasant. Bob Umble checked in with a 40 and Jarrod Bartock notched a 44. Bryan Gricheck paced the Vikings with a 35 while Rob Chlebowski tallied a 39. Brett Lehman shot a 40, followed by Anthony Pennline’s 42 and Matt Arrotti’s 44. The Vikings (7-4) visit Mount Pleasant on Thursday. Section 2-AA Frz. 231, Monessen 243 Jacob Rabatin led the Commodores to a win as he fired a 41. Brandon Madorma checked in with a 42, followed by Chris Bissett’s 45, Mark Matras’ 48 and Patrick Black’s 55. Rick Tyburski paced the Greyhounds with a 41 while Jim Nash notched a 47. Zach Cesini shot a 50 while Ben Billy scored a 52 and Dave Feehan delivered a 53. Frazier (2-7, 2-12) will travel to Carmichaels today. Section 8-AA Geibel 240, M’town 242 Matt Mascia and Tom McNeil each shot a 42 to lead Geibel to a victory over the Maples. Jeff Dennis shot a 44, while Andrew Broadwater scored a 52. Bill Noel figured in with a 60. Chris Boord led Mapletown with a 46, while Joe Clites and Bill Clites each shot a 47. Chris Petrick carded a 50 and Mike Marshall notched a 57. Geibel (4-6, 4-7) will host Waynesburg on Thursday. Girls Volleyball Section 5-A Frz. 3, M’town 0 Rachel Sparinga nailed 20 service points while Mandy Byron chipped in 17 assists as the Lady Commodores beat Mapletown 15-5, 15-4, 15-5. Holly Smith notched 12 kills. Frazier (3-2, 6-5) will host California today. Section 5-AA Derry 3, SHS 0 The Lady Trojans scored a 15-4, 15-4, 15-8 win over host Southmoreland. The Lady Scotties host Connellsville today. Boys Soccer Section 1-AA MP 11, Derry 1 Jim Wilkinson scored three goals while Kevin Kabassa and Dustin Terhorst each scored twice as Mount Pleasant demolished Derry. Josh Sobota, David Gesinski, Matt Snyder and Justin Dimagall each scored a goal. Randy Higgins made three saves while Brenton DeFlitch stopped six. The Vikings (9-0, 10-0-1) host Belle Vernon on Thursday. Section 1-AAA Norwin 4, CAHS 1 The Knights topped the visiting Falcons in section action. Connellsville entertains Indiana on Thursday.
