Shuman Juvenile Detention Center earned a full state license for 2010 and a complimentary report from state regulators on its recovery from recent scandals, according to an inspection summary state officials released Thursday.
Leaders at the Lincoln-Lemington center have made "good faith efforts" to correct problems the state Department of Public Welfare found after an attempted suicide in May.
The report did not go into details, but did say officials have well used a satellite facility to keep the population at 88, far below the 130 maximum.
The facility has added murals and done extensive maintenance to help improve the building's condition, which had been so poor the state temporarily downgraded Shuman's license in 2008. The building does have some minor mold problems, and officials have been unable to stop graffiti or get county workers to replace old ceiling tiles, according to the report.
