RICHARDSON, Texas — Don't be fooled by the name: “Skinny” the cat is one hefty feline. And all 41 pounds of her needs a home.

A Dallas-area animal shelter has cared for the 5-year-old orange tabby since getting a call about a stray in a yard about a week ago.

Kim Chapin with Richardson Animal Services said on Friday that Skinny's “very sweet” — and the largest cat she's seen in 21 years with the shelter.

That's 25 pounds larger than average and half a dozen pounds shy of the fattest cat on record, according to the Dallas Morning News. “Himmy” the Australian cat tipped the scales at about 47 pounds, according to Guinness, which retired the category to discourage the overfeeding of porky pets.

How porky is Skinny? Federal government growth charts show Skinny weighs about as much as the average 4-year-old human.

Described as a “special needs” cat, Skinny needs a new home almost as much as she needs a new lifestyle. She has a host of health concerns, can take only a few steps at a time and has a hard time grooming herself, requiring the staff to clean her constantly.

She's been placed on a diet since he has been at the shelter.
