Slovak wins title
Zack Blackstone, Timmy Fung and Jeremy Burncheck each homered as Slovak Club beat Liston’s Chiropractic 10-0 in Teener League actiion. With the victory, Slovak Club won the Connellsville Teener League Championship with an 18-4 record. It was the second time in three years that Slovak Club won the title. Andy Schleihauf, Blackstone and Jeremy Burncheck each added a double. Jacob Burncheck added a pair of hits. Jeremy Burncheck struck out three and was the winning pitcher.
Justin Davanzo struck out one and took the loss. Shane Gannon had Liston’s only hit.
The Connellsville Little League will hold its monthly meeting at 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 9 at the major field.
= Any player from the area interested in playing fall baseball should attend a sign-up today or Aug. 7 from 10 a.m. to noon at the major field. The cost is $25 per person. First-year players must bring a birth certificate.
Previously ordered tickets for the Pirates game on Aug. 14 are now available for pick up at Bruner Insurance Agency Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Aug. 13.

The parents of all Southmoreland football players in grades 9-12 will be meeting on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the junior high cafeteria. The mandatory football camp will be outlined and the upcoming football season will be the topic. All players should have a parent or guardian present.
Any Geibel student interested in playing golf this fall should attend a meeting on Aug. 16 at 3 p.m. at Pleasant Valley Country Club.
Geibel High School will conduct a basketball camp from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Aug. 14 and 1-5 p.m. on Aug. 15 for girls entering grades 5-8. Cost is $20, and the registration deadline is July 30. Camp brochures are available at the high school or by calling 724-547-3428.
Geibel High School will hold a summer volleyball camp on Aug. 9-13 at the Geibel gym. The camp will run each day from 5 to 8 p.m. and is open to students in grades 5-9. Reserved season tickets for the 2004 Southmoreland football season will be sold from 6 to 8 p.m. on Aug. 20 at the stadium concession stand. The cost is $15 for a five-game package. Reserve ticket prices purchased at the gate on game nights is $4.
Connellsville Booster Football League sign-ups will be held today at the following times and locations: Tri-Town, noon to 1 p.m. at the Vanderbilt playground; East End, 10 a.m. to noon at Zach Connell Elementary; Bullskin, 10 a.m. to noon at the supervisor’s building; ICV, 10 a.m. to noon at the Springfield Township fire hall; Dunbar, 10 a.m. to noon at Dunbar Township stadium; and South Connellsville, 11 a.m. to noon at the playground pavilion. Entry fee is $25 for the first child and $10 for each additional child. A birth certificate is required for first-year players.

SC Rod and Gun
The South Connellsville Rod and Gun Club will hold its annual club picnic at noon on Aug. 8 at the club beginning at 1 p.m. The club will provide hot dogs, burgers, chicken, hot sausage, baked beans, corn, salad and beverages. All are asked to bring a covered dish of picnic food or desert.
= The regular monthly meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 12 at the club. Food will be served after the meeting all are urged to attend.
The Regional Family YMCA of Laurel Highlands in Mount Pleasant is currently in the process of organizing its fall adult volleyball leagues. Registration is now being held at the YMCA for both last season’s teams and new teams. There are two women’s volleyball leagues again this year. One on Monday nights at the Connellsville Community Center and the other on Thursday night at the Regional Family YMCA in East Huntingdon Township. A co-ed league will be held on Sunday evenings at the Regional Family YMCA as well.
The YMCA is also seeking licensed PIAA volleyball officials for the Sunday and Thursday leagues. A mandatory organizational meeting for all team captains or team representatives will be held on Aug. 19 at 6:30 p.m. at the Regional Family YMCA.
Team practices for Sunday and Thursday leagues will be the week of Sept. 12. The Monday league will practice on Sept. 20. Competition for these leagues will begin one week following their first week of practice during the weeks of Sept. 19 and 27 respectively.
All teams must register by Sept. 5. Cost is $400 per team for those in the Sunday and Thursday leagues and $100 per team and $25 per person to participate in the Monday night league. Entry fees must be paid in full prior to the first scheduled match. Times are: Junior high and high school cross country (8:30 a.m.), golf (8:45 a.m.), high school soccer (9 a.m.), seventh and eighth grade soccer (9:20 a.m.), Junior High East football (9:40 a.m.), Junior High West football (10 a.m.) and high school football (10:30 a.m.).
Girls physicals will be given on Aug. 5. Times are: Junior high and high school cross country (8:30 a.m.), tennis (8:40 a.m.), volleyball (8:50 a.m.), high school soccer (9 a.m.), seventh and eighth grade basketball and seventh and eighth grade soccer (9:20 a.m.). Football make-ups will be held at 9:45 a.m.
If these physical dates are misses, athletes will have to go to their own doctor. Forms can be picked up at the junior high school offices and the high school athletic office.
The District 12 Business and Professional Women’s Club is sponsoring its sixth annual golf scramble on Aug. 20 at the Cedarbrook Golf Club in Belle Vernon. The cost to register is $100. The cost includes golf, basket of balls, skill prizes, door prizes lunch and dinner. Proceeds benefit the District 12 Tribute to Women Scholarship Fund.
