Smicksburg Amish woman killed in crash
A 19-year-old Amish woman died Tuesday evening after she was struck by a teen driver on Route 954 in Indiana County, but state police in Punxsutawney do not anticipate filing charges against the driver, authorities said Wednesday.
Christina Byler, of 49 Rummell Road, Smicksburg, was walking alone on Route 954 in West Mahoning Township, about two miles south of Smicksburg, when she was struck by the oncoming vehicle at 8:06 p.m., Indiana County Coroner Michael Baker said.
The driver, an unidentified 17-year-old boy from Smicksburg, was in a 2002 Chevrolet Blazer, Trooper Michael P. Mays said in a news release.
“State police from the Punxsutawney barracks informed the coroner’s office at the scene that no charges were anticipated in the accident,” Baker said in a news release. “No autopsy is planned.”
Byler, who was walking home from a friend’s house, died from blunt force trauma of the head, the coroner said.
