KILLING THE SHEIK: Sheik Ahmad Yassin, the founder and leader of Hamas, was a “spiritual leader” in the tradition of Osama bin Laden. When the United States gets the opportunity to kill bin Laden, we certainly will kill him. Will the Associated Press eulogize bin Laden as a “spiritual leader,” or ignore the thousands of Americans he murdered• Why is Israel’s assassination of this murderous terrorist leader any different• Is Israeli blood less red than ours? Nosson Sachs, Squirrel Hill The assassination of Yassin by the Israeli military marks a sad day for Americans. Prime Minister Sharon uses Palestinian terrorism to buy time to rob the Palestinians of their land and culture. The suicide bombings are their only means of defense from helicopters and missiles supplied by our tax dollars. This catastrophe is behind much of the world terrorism of our day. Glenn Waldschmidt, Ross OUT WITH OUTSOURCING : Frank Haller “praises” the outsourcing of American jobs, saying, “We will improve their lives and economies” (Letters, March 24). I don’t know if Mr. Haller has children or grandchildren, but if he does, and if they struggle to find work in “their own” economy, he may not want to show them that letter he wrote. Rob Janeda, North Fayette CONGRESSIONAL NO-NOs : I have a simple suggestion for members of Congress to get them to solve the forecasts of bankruptcy of Social Security and Medicare: Give up the very generous health and retirement programs you have seen fit to give yourselves — NO unlimited FREE medical care; NO retirement at the highest pay you ever had; NO pension until you put in a decent vesting period. See how you like it. Jerry Taylor, Penn Hills DEAR MAYOR : Mayor Murphy, if you want developers to be interested in Fifth and Forbes Downtown, don’t scare people away through raising their parking taxes, closing their schools and pools, and cutting funding to agencies that make their city safe. Timothy Benz, Chicago
