Charlie Brown may be a good man, but Snoopy is the star of "Snoopy!! The Musical," being presented now at the Geyer Theater for Performing Arts in Scottdale.

"It really isn't a sequel to 'You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown,'" director Michael Rohlf said. "A lot of little vignettes make up the show. It's really just like the comic strip."

The musical comedy was penned by Larry Grossman and Hal Hackady and centers more on everyone's favorite beagle -- Snoopy, being played by veteran actor Nick Onesko.

The show will be a repeat performance for the young actors who staged the same show at the Flatwoods Grange earlier this spring.

But for the exception of one actor all of the players for the upcoming Scottdale performance have done this show previously.

New to the show is Whitney Weimer of Connellsville, who will be portraying Lucy.

Weimer attended the Flatwoods staging.

"I was there when they did this at Flatwoods so I had an idea of what was excepted of Lucy," Weimer said. "But I changed it a bit to make it my own."

The two-hour show will feature 20 songs, including "A Dime a Dozen," "When Do the Good Things Start," and "Edgar Allen Poe."

The talented group, hand-picked by Rohlf, sing, dance and laugh their way through the two-act show.

"If you like the comic strip, you'll love the show," Weimer said. "I think it will appeal to everybody and it's really really funny."

The audience need not be taken aback by the bareness of the staging. The talent of the young players will shine through as the true focal point of the performance.

"The set itself is really very sparse, and centers around Snoopy's doghouse," Rohlf said. "But this is a group of very talented young performers and it would be wonderful to have everyone come out and see them perform. They are super talents."

Debuting as the show choreographer is Lexie Rohlf, who will also be playing the part of little Sally.

"Snoopy!! The Musical" will be staged at 8:15 p.m. today through Saturday and at 3:15 p.m. Sunday. All tickets will be $11. For information, call the theater at 724-887-0887.
