Soft drink makers are considering limits on selling carbonated drinks to schoolchildren.

The Wall Street Journal reports Wednesday that industry trade group, the American Beverage Association, is mulling a proposal to stop selling soft drinks in elementary school and to only sell in middle schools after school hours.

Many states and school districts throughout the United States have enacted soft drink sale restrictions.

The voluntary rules by pop manufacturers are thought to be provoked by critics that say soft drinks are adding to the increasing obesity of U.S. children.
