Somerset man charged with robbing convenience store

A Somerset man was charged with robbing a convenience store and threatening its clerk with a knife Tuesday evening, according to Somerset Borough police.

Kevin Alan Pierce, 27, allegedly held up the Kwik Fill on Plank Road at knife-point and fled with cash and energy drinks.

The clerk recognized the masked man and told officers that he lived in the nearby Cherry Lane Estates mobile home court. When they went to the home, police said Pierce attempted to escape through a bedroom window while they were talking to his mother.

Officers waiting outside apprehended Pierce, who is charged with robbery, terroristic threats, simple assault, theft and receiving stolen property. He is being held in Somerset County Prison on $150,000 cash bail.

A preliminary hearing before District Judge Kenneth Johnson is scheduled Jan. 12.
