To Mark Kanny: As an area musician and music teacher of 25-plus years, I opened the Sept. 15 Trib eager to read your column on the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra's gala concert. I have long appreciated your insightful and informative reviews these many years.
After viewing the eye-catching photo on the cover of the Living section, I assumed I was in the right place to read your review. Instead, I was directed to read your review online ( “Mutter's lustrous performance highlight of PSO gala concert,” Sept. 14 and TribLIVE.com).
Well, I didn't want to do that; I wanted to sip my coffee and read the paper. Disgraceful.
We all know it's 2014, we can read it online — but that's not the point. I just find it appalling that your review was banished to the web to make room for a Fanfare column listing who's who that dined at the Duquesne Club ( “Pittsburgh Symphony gala's after-party surprises guests with risque entertainment,” Sept. 15 and TribLIVE.com).
Furthermore, our wonderful orchestra and the richly diverse arts scene that you so skillfully write about should not play “second fiddle” to a society page.
P.S. I did enjoy your review — online (LOL), although it should run in the paper ASAP.
Keep up the wonderful work!
