The Little Green Machine Marching Band will welcome nine other high school bands to perform in South Fayette's 36th annual Festival of Bands on Saturday.
The festival lineup will feature high school marching bands from Avonworth, Avella, Bethel Park, Carlynton, Chartiers Valley, Cornell, Fort Cherry, Obama Academy, Riverview and host South Fayette.
Eryn Carranza has been South Fayette's marching band director since 2011. This year, the band pays tribute to several iconic musicians with its halftime show, “Legendary.”
The South Fayette lineup starts with “The Gershwin Connection (Fanfare)” and “Birdland.” Other songs are “Paint It Black” by the Rolling Stones, “Wagon Wheel” by Bob Dylan, “The River” by Garth Brooks and “Johnny B. Goode” by Chuck Berry.
Carranza said “The River” is the concert tune, when the students will stay in formation. As is tradition at South Fayette, even the majorettes play instruments for the concert tune. All other songs have the Little Green Machine in motion.
Carranza said the finale piece is usually a medley of songs by one artist. This year, the students elected to feature five artists, with each band section featured for a song.
The finale piece highlights Pink Floyd's “Another Brick in the Wall,” the Bee Gees' “Stayin' Alive,” Michael Jackson's “Bad,” Abba's “Mamma Mia” and David Bowie and Queen's “Under Pressure.”
The South Fayette band consists of 68 students. The band performed in both the Carlynton and Montour band festivals this month and the Kennywood Fall Fantasy Parade in August. South Fayette will perform in the Bethel Park band festival Oct. 8.
