It was my privilege to be a guest at the Scottdale Firemen's annual banquet held at their social hall on Porter Avenue. This fire department has been on the job in Scottdale for 123 years. Jason Suitor received the First President Award and the annual Service Award. Jim Echard received the Lifetime Achievement Award. Jim Smiley received the Meritorious Service Award. The Silver Lifesaving Award was given to Dave Wendell and Leslie "Buzz" Myers.
The junior firemen (age 14 to 18) also received awards.
Jeffrey Coppetti, Scott Rollinson and Brian Whoric received 20-year pins. Joseph and Janet Coppetti must be proud of their family's devotions to the department with two sons and five grandsons as junior firemen.
The food was excellent and great door prizes were donated by the merchants.
We have a fire department to be so very proud of. They are there for our safety and they are all volunteers. We as a community thank you for the bottom of our hearts. Scottdale is blessed.
Readers, spring will come in on Friday. Enjoy the longer days and the weather.
