Spadafora to fight June 24 the Amphitheatre at Station Square

| Friday, May 22, 2009 4:00 a.m.

Former IBF champion Paul Spadafora will headline a pro boxing card with a 10-round fight June 24 at the Amphitheatre at Station Square -- the first in his hometown in two years for the McKees Rocks boxer.

An opponent has yet to be announced for Spadafora (41-0-1, 16 knockouts), now a junior welterweight.

He hasn't fought since scoring an eight-round unanimous decision over Shad Howard on April 2008 in Erie. A scheduled March 31 bout at the Hilton Hotel, Downtown, was postponed because of an ankle injury. Promoter Michael Acri said that venue was no longer available.

This fight marks Spadafora's third bout at the outdoor venue, formerly sponsored by I.C. Light and Chevrolet. He defeated Joel Perez there in May 2001 and Francisco Campos there in July '04.

"I am chompin' at the bit to get back into the ring and have never felt stronger. I'm in great shape," Spadafora said in a statement released by Acri. "I can't wait to fight in front of my hometown fans again."

The card also will feature Elizabeth lightweight Rod Salka (7-0, 2 KOs) and McKees Rocks welterweight Jose Caraballo (5-3, 1 KO), as well as the professional debut of Wheeling, W.Va., heavyweight Tommy Poe.

Tickets priced at $103 for ringside, $53 for reserved and $23 for general admission go on sale Tuesday and can be purchased at the amphitheatre's box office, all Ticketmaster outlets and Blue Eagle Sports in McKees Rocks.
