The Daily Courier is offering a place for our readers to issue their opinions on current events and items reported in the pages of the newspaper. Called "Speak Out," the feature appears on our editorial page. Comments may be submitted by e-mail, fax or mail.

Submissions will appear at the discretion of the editor (we will be selective) and may be edited for content and length.

We will not allow comments that are personal attacks or critical of businesses. We will not allow anyone to advocate a boycott or strike and we will not allow name-calling. Personal attacks, such as commenting on someone's mental ability, looks, style of dress, racial ethnicity, economic status, etc., will automatically be deleted. However, comments concerning a public official's actions or plans are fair game. Organized call-in campaigns will not be published.

You may send your e-mailed comments by visiting our Web site at www.dailycourier.com and clicking on the Speak Out link or go directly to the link at www.pittsburghlive.com/x/dailycourier/speakout/speakout.php. Or, you may e-mail your comments directly to rabramowitz@tribweb.com; fax comments to 724-626-3567 or mail comments to Daily Courier, 127 W. Apple St., Connellsville, Pa., 15425. We will not take Speak Out comments by telephone.

Residents speak ...

= I am in great joy that we have freedom of speech, that we can speak out instead of going to pieces. In other countries, it is a sin to speak out against the boss. In this country, it is OK. We have a better agreement. Our lawmakers are saying the economy is better. I can see why. They are getting an increase. They are smiling. We are getting a decrease. They are smiling. ... What they get, I could not get in a lifetime.

= The Connellsville School Board talked about drug-testing the students. I think they need to start with all the employees of the district. This should not be just for new hires but for everyone.

= I would like to know why there was nothing in the Courier about the car fire that happened on West Side Hill on Wednesday, Oct. 29• Also, I would like to know why there is hardly ever any Connellsville news on the front page of your newspaper. There is hardly any Connellsville news in the Courier. All the news that the Courier ever prints is about Greensburg, Mount Pleasant, Scottdale and Uniontown.
