Spin Doctors vocalist Chris Barron is fighting his ex-wife in New York for custody of their daughter because she is living with a violent sex offender.

Barron, who recently married Broadway star Laura Benati, is fighting for permanent custody of his 6-year-old daughter who had been living in a one-bedroom apartment with her mother and her boyfriend, Eric Lewenstein, who just got out of prison for rape and assault, the New York Post reported Thursday.

Lewenstein served three years for raping two young women and then turning violent, the Post said.

In papers seeking permanent custody of his daughter, Barron said he was "appalled" by his former wife's "lack of judgment."

Barron was granted temporary custody of the girl in August. A judge rejected Rebecca Woodward's request for unsupervised visits, the Post said. Woodward said she did not want her daughter "raised by nannies" while Barron was touring with the Spin Doctors.

"Until you are no longer in a position where your current paramour is living with you, the court will not entertain that," the judge responded. "The concern, frankly, is not you."
