Squirrel Hill resident dies while scuba diving in Florida

A Pittsburgh man died Monday while scuba diving in the Florida Keys.

An autopsy for Andrei Kukushkin, 51, of Squirrel Hill, is scheduled for Wednesday, according to the Monroe County, Fla. Medical Examiner's Office.

Kukushkin was diving with friends at a Coast Guard cutter wreckage off Key Largo. As the divers were ascending, he stopped moving and began to drift, said Becky Herrin, spokeswoman for the Monroe County Sheriff's Office.

His friends brought him back to their boat and tried to revive him. Kukushkin was taken to shore and pronounced dead at a nearby hospital, Herrin said.
