Sri Lankan authorities took DNA samples Thursday from an infant who survived the December tsunami and is now being claimed by nine couples, the BBC reported.

The infant is being called "Baby 81" for his admission sequence to a Kalmunai hospital after the Dec. 26 disaster, the then-2-month-old was found covered in mud beneath debris.

Of the couples claiming he is theirs is Murugupillai and Junitha Jeyarajah, who claimed in court he is their son Abhilasha, born Oct. 19.

The couple were furious when a judge ordered DNA samples last week, and hours later they tried to storm the hospital to claim the child. However, they also submitted to DNA testing Wednesday, and officials said results would not be available for at least a week.

A court hearing on custody claims is scheduled for April 20.

The tsunami killed more than 200,000 people, of which 30,000 were in Sri Lanka.
