A St. Vincent College student was one of several hundred volunteers who helped build a new home for an Ohio family whose story will be featured on an upcoming episode of the television show "Extreme Makeover Home Edition."

Bob Debiec, 19, a sophomore biology major, and his family helped build a new house for a widower and his three daughters in October. Debiec said the family's old house in Boardman, Ohio, was demolished and a new one built on the same site in approximately one week.

Debiec said he and his family agreed to help before they knew the project involved the popular television show. He said they were approached by a family friend who waited until after they had agreed to help to tell them the project involved a television show.

Debiec said he was assigned to help install a lawn sprinkler at the family's new home, but he also assisted with drywall installation, loading trucks and running errands.

Debiec said the experience showed him how much can be accomplished when people band together.

"It shows how you can have a lot of people do a little bit, and end up doing a whole lot," Debiec said.

The show is set to air 8 p.m. Sunday on ABC.
