Biblical roles seem to suit actor Vince Tresco of Plum.

Last year, he portrayed Jesus in Stage Right’s production of “Jesus Christ, Superstar” and said the experience gave him a confidence that allowed him to grow in his faith.

This year, Tresco is cast as the title role of Joseph in another Tim Rice-Andrew Lloyd Webber musical, “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat,” and he is equally as moved by the experience.

“This show does not as easily lend itself to the dramatics and emotion of ‘Superstar,’ ” he says. “That being said, I recently reviewed this section in the Book of Genesis and have found Joseph’s story one of redemption, revelation and forgiveness. During this Lenten period, Joseph’s journey is one we all can associate with as we prepare ourselves to celebrate Easter.”

The production is based on the Old Testament story of Joseph’s “coat of many colors” given to him by his father. One of 12 sons, Joseph is hated by his brothers who are jealous of the gift and plot to get rid of him. Although his brothers tell others that he is dead, Joseph is taken to Egypt where he endures a series of adventures and eventually becomes second in command to the Pharaoh. He eventually reunites with his family, and a lesson is learned.

“Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” is told totally through songs in a variety of musical styles — from country-western and calypso to bubble-gum pop and rock ‘n’ roll. It is narrated by Renata Marino and Mindy Wedner.

Wedner also is happy to have the opportunity to join the cast of the Stage Right production.

“This is my second time doing ‘Joseph’ in the Pittsburgh area,” she says. “The last time I did the show, I was in the children’s chorus, and I instantly fell in love with the part of the narrator. Since that experience 10-plus years ago, I just had to play the part. It is a dream role for me.”

She has performed at the Roxy Theatre in Tennessee (“Ring of Fire” and “High School Musical 2”) and at the Tropicana Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City (“Fame”), besides roles in other shows locally.

Also featured in the cast are Kevin O’Leary, Anthony Marino, David Mahokey, Greg Kerestan, Adam Grossett and Brendan Duffy. Anthony Marino is director, Renata Marino is the choreographer and Eric Barchiesi is the musical director. The show also features a 30-member children’s chorus of Stage Right students.
