Stanley Cup national anthem battle: Jeff Jimerson or A-list country stars?
No, Jeff Jimerson doesn't have any Grammy Awards, but he's Pittsburgh's anthem singer.
Since 1991, the North Side native has been belting out the national anthem before Penguins games.
He's a familiar, comfortable voice whose ovation when his name is announced can rival that of any of the Penguins players.
The Nashville Predators during the Stanley Cup Playoffs have rolled out the red carpet for some of the biggest names in country music to sing the anthem, including Vince Gill, Trisha Yearwood and Keith Urban. The team's usual anthem singer, Dennis K. Morgan, has had to take a backseat to the stars, and he's not exactly thrilled about it, according to The Tennessean .
So how does Jimerson's rendition of the anthem stack up against some A-list country stars? Watch Carrie Underwood, Luke Bryan, Little Big Town and Jimerson perform, and vote for who you think does the best rendition on our poll below the videos.
Carrie Underwood
Before Game 1 of the Predators' first-round series against the Chicago Blackhawks, Underwood, who is married to Predators captain Mike Fisher, surprised the crowd.
Luke Bryan
One game later, it was Bryan who wowed the crowd.
Little Big Town
In Round 2 (the Predators had only two home games in the first round because ... well ... they swept the Blackhawks, the top seed in the playoffs), Little Big Town and their soothing harmonies took center stage.
Jeff Jimerson
Of course, most of us know what Jimerson's version sounds like, but here's a refresher (and a Canadian anthem to go with it).
Who does the best version of the national anthem? (Pittsburgh, of course, may be partial to Mr. Jimerson: https://t.co/zhZ9HI2eml )
