A Fayette County man could spend up to 20 years in prison for sexually assaulting a juvenile female.

Michael George Protos, 41, of Star Junction was convicted in May in a jury trial on charges of rape, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, aggravated indecent assault, statutory sexual assault, sexual assault and indecent assault.

State police in Belle Vernon said Protos assaulted the girl over a 10-year period ending in 2006. The assaults took place at several residences in Perry Township.

On Monday, Judge Ralph Warman sentenced Protos to 10 to 20 years in state prison.

Upon his release from jail, Protos will have to register his address with state police for the remainder of his life. In addition, he must attend counseling sessions at least once a month.
